A new bus driver training device called, what else, "The Bus," will be on display for area residents tomorrow on Gibson Street in Columbus. The state has converted a bus into a self-contained training center for public transit employees and human service agency drivers. Final Sign Ordinance Draft Due April 1 The sign ordinance being drafted for Polk County by a committee of area residents is "coming together," committee chairman Leo Baird told the Polk County Board of Com missioners Monday night. Baird said in addition to regulations for "off-site" signs, the newest draft of the ordinance includes regulations for "on-site" signs. Off-site signs arc those which advertise businesses or services not offered in the same location as the sign. Baird told the board that his committee is now meeting weekly, and he said he hopes a final draft will be ready for the board by April 1st. The county enacted a one year moratorium on all new, off-site signs last August to give the sign committee time to com plete its work. THURSDAY, MARCH 7,1991 Red Fox Cable TV Service Improving County Manager John Lew is said Wednesday that cable television service in the Red Fox area should be improving. "They're working on it," Lewis said. The company which owns the franchise serving a meager 80 homes in that area. Cable of the Carolinas of Greer, S.C., is refurbishing its lines and waterproofing the connectors, Lewis said. The work is about 75 percent complete. In addition, the county man ager said the owners of Cable of the Carolinas have been a lot more forthcoming recently, including providing him an outline explaining reception problems, channel by channel. Lewis .said he has received complaints from customers about six channels in particu lar. Democrat Precinct #1 Meeting Set Precinct #! Democrats will hold their annual precinct meeting Thursday, March 7, 8 p.m. al the new polling place, Tryon Town Hall. All demo crats are welcome. Everyone is urged to attend. 16 Pages Today 2(>C Per Copy Safe Stolen From Sandy Green Market A 3x4-foot safe was stolen from Sandy Green Supermarket in Sandy Plains sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning, according to Sheriff Boyce Carswell. A bar was pried off the back door of the market, located at the intersection of Hwy. 9 and 14. "The safe contained several thousand dollars in checks, food stamps and cash," Sheriff Carswell said. He said many of the checks were government checks which the store had cashed. In another break-in, burglars stole a cash box with approxi mately $100 in it from the Fig- gin & Metric Inc. office trailer located on the Tryon Estates construction site off Penicl Road in Columbus. The theft occurred sometime between Friday and Mondav, March 1-4. In yet another burglary, the Sheriff reported that an answering machine, a Panasonic phone and a regular phone were stolen Friday or Saturday from the Langdon residence at 100 Braewick Rd. in Tryon.
